In a significant move to enhance grassroots governance and service delivery, the Muzarabani Rural District Council has officially handed over a fleet of new all-terrain motorbikes to its ward councillors.

Navigating the vast and often rugged terrain of the Zambezi Valley has historically posed a massive challenge for local leadership. Councillors previously faced immense transport difficulties when trying to reach remote communities, inspect Devolution-funded infrastructure, or attend urgent civil protection meetings during the rainy season.

Speaking during the handover ceremony at the Centenary Council Offices, Council Chairperson Alderman A. Chiweshe emphasized that mobility is the cornerstone of effective representation. “A councillor cannot effectively represent a ward they cannot access. These motorbikes bridge the physical gap between the local authority and the citizens in our most remote villages,” he stated.

The provision of the motorbikes aligns with the central government’s mandate to equip local authorities with the necessary tools to monitor public works, oversee the ongoing Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP), and ensure that no community is left behind in the district’s development trajectory.
